At a house in the suburb of Orange, CA, forty-something-year-old John Paul sits at a paper-strewn table as he speaks to current and future customers, negotiating a chord between the perennial seriousness of business conversation and the inherent light-heartedness of the business he helped built. Across from him, his father spryly taps at a calculator to assess the latest accounting. In the corner, a tireless woman lifts and drops a sketching pencil on a piece of paper.
Monique du Rock

"Finally, it is beautiful," she exclaims as she pencils in the last mark on the sketch of the versatile cardigan. The piece revealed the broad shoulders of the graphite woman, and it elegantly sloped down in wavelike ruffle. "Let's make it happen."
Monique du Rock, her husband Jack, and their son John had set a main goal in mind when they founded Monique du Rock, a producer of fine yet affordable designers knits whose clothes dot boutiques around the country. "To make beautiful things, of course," explains Monique. "To me, beauty is simplicity. All that I try to do when I create is mimic that spark of pure beauty I have found everywhere."
When Monique says "everywhere," she is short of exaggeration. Monique, born to an middle-class family in the Middle East, fled the region amid increasing conflict when she was a child. Her family moved to the Caribbean island of Haiti, where her eyes were opened to the richness of another culture for the first time. Afterward, she obtained her visa and moved to southern California, where she married Jack, who'd fled from the Middle East to Canada and had recently moved to California. "Incredibly, I landed a job as a fashion coordinator for Valentino, where my understanding and love of clothing fully began to mature." After eleven years on the job, she at last thought she could express her own style rather selling other peoples' designs. "And make the clothes in a smarter, fairer way, as well!" she added. And so she founded Monique du Rock in 2004.
After a career spent in the mortgage industry, her son John closed his mortgage banking business in the Great Recession of 2007 and 2008. Rather than sit and do nothing, John decided to take this devastation and use it as an opportunity to at last pursue his passion for fashion and photography; he joined his mother as an owner of Monique du Rock in 2009 as its lead business person.
Monique defined economic fairness and environmentalism as the core values of her company. Monique du Rock, Inc. pays fair wages to the employees who hand-loom its garments in Peru and insists on only using eco-friendly fabric, primarily its high-quality cotton imported from Austria.
Monique's fashion has been lauded as simultaneously sophisticated and youthful, and Monique prides herself on how she has successfully incorporated many styles from across the world in her clothes. "By far, the reason why I most like this business is the way a customer looks after she puts on a garment of mine," says Monique. "Not the look of the clothing, necessarily, but the look on her face when she sees herself. Monique du Rock knits have a knack for bringing out the natural beauty that every woman has."

We "Press" On

Well, it certainly has been an exciting start of the the week....

Monique du Rock had a feature segment on KUSI's Good Morning San Diego.  Both Mary Rock, designer and her son John Paul, business affairs and marketing appeared on the segment with Brandi Williams and Sonya Berg.  In the segment the styles were presented as a younger fashion forward alternative to some of the other established knitwear companies in the market.  The choice of specific yarns along with the styling truly establishes Monique du Rock as an up and coming fashion brand.

As we look to the future Mary's vision continues to revolve around  "YOU", by combining fashion, comfort and versatility. "If something is beautiful but it does not make its way out of the closet because it is not functional, what is the point of having it?"   With that in mild Monique du Rock will continue to design amazing knits that make you feel as good as you look.

Monique du Rock has designed some wonderful knit tops and cardigans.  These twin sets come in many wonderful colors for the summer months. We are selling them online in order to keep the cost down for everyone.  Please shop and share Summer Twin Sets

The entire staff at Monique du Rock thanks you.

Filaments of Energy!

Often times in life we have something to say, and we don't..  Maybe its because the moment does not present itself. Perhaps by the time we decide to express ourselves the feeling is gone or perchance, we do not feel anyone is listening.

This type of thinking is all wet, express yourself!  String Theory states "All objects in our universe are composed of vibrating filaments of energy", so what are you waiting for,?, play a tune on those strings!

Each day make a decision to be fashion.  It's not just the clothes you wear, its how you make the clothes, you.  Are you wearing a name brand? or is a name brand wearing you?  Let the cut and style do the talking, not the emblem, you are the emblem!

You wont find our knitwear in your mother's closet, Monique du Rock knits are woven with filaments of energy!

Cheers
Monique

About Monique

Monique du Rock was founded by Mary Rock in 2009 and has recently has been incorporated; Mary is currently applying to become a Certified Women Owned Business.

The story behind the designs is as fascinating as the designs themselves so it is worth being told.  Mary Rock was born in Bethlehem, the Middle East, and moved to Haiti as a teenager.  In Haiti is where she learned her love for fashion, her father owned a textile plant that produced fabric.  In addition to the factory they had a store front where Monique sold the fabric to the locals to in order to make their clothes.  Soon after she was married she moved to Toronto and eventually ended up in Southern California.

After raising a family Mary decided to go back to work, she established herself as the premier salesperson with St. John Knits at Bullocks.  That is when she was recruited to Nordstrom, South Coast Plaza to work in the Couture Department, once again she quickly was recognized for her sales ability.  Shortly thereafter,  Dorothy Maas, Couture Director and Peter Devin, Regional Manager realized it was not simply her sales ability but her understanding of fashion and textiles that allowed her to dress a woman in a way that made the sale.  Mary spent 11 years with Nordstrom at the Couture Department as the Valentino and Ungaro specialist and buyer.  She coordinated fashion shows, trunk shows and catered an elite clientele that would fly to meet with her from all over the world.

Now Mary has once again perusing her passion as a designer and manufacture of fine knitwear; we believe that knitwear is a niche that can and needs to be filled by a visionary like Mary.  Her latest collection has a classic look with a modern edge, her vision is to create a collection that can be worn during the day and into the evening by today’s women.
